FAQ
I followed the heating instructions and it still wasn’t quite cooked – what did I do wrong?
Ovens really do vary so we include those instructions as a guide. A sure way to know if your mac is ready is if you see the lovely cheese bubbling ever-so-slightly on the sides and the top is just a bit browned. To ensure browning you can put it under the broiler for just a minute – but be careful as it can burn quickly.
How long does it take for the mac and cheese to fully thaw?
As a general rule we say in the fridge overnight.
Why do you recommend thawing the mac & cheese first?
We have made great effort to deliver the cheesiest mac & cheese and find that if it is cooked frozen in the oven, it can end up a bit drier than we’d like. So if it is thawed first, it will require less time in the oven and produce an overall better result!
What are some serving suggestions for mac and cheese?
There are so many ways!
- As an appetizer, we’ve put the mac into little muffin tins, resprinkled with buttered
panko and baked. A big hit at parties! - As a side dish with grilled meats and vegetables.
- Mac & Cheese is wonderful as a main meal. Simply pair it with a fresh baguette and a simple salad – perfection!
Can I cook this in a toaster oven?
Of course – please follow the instructions for the regular preparation and watch closely as ovens do vary.
I love lobster mac & cheese – can I add lobster to the Four Cheese Mac?
The Four Cheese Mac is really a tabula rasa! Get creative and add whatever strikes your fancy. If you are going this route, we suggest letting it thaw, and scraping off the Panko crumbs on the top. Mix in whatever you’d like and then resprinkle with buttered Panko. Have fun!
